You Only Live Twice (1967)
Fresh from filming the critically acclaimed Alfie (1966) starring Michael Caine, director Lewis Gilbert was given the job of directing his first Bond movie. Sean Connery was to play 007 for the fifth time, and Anthony Sinclair returned to make his clothes, albeit a limited number compared to the previous films.
Since James Bond spends much of the film in disguise, he has little opportunity to showcase the classic sartorial elegance that defines the character in earlier movies—he doesn’t even get to wear a dinner jacket!
Only a couple of Sinclair's Conduit Cut suits appear in the film, a sober Two-Piece Grey Herringbone and a wonderful Two-Piece French Navy Mohair. The message from the new director was loud and clear, "You Only Dress Twice".
The suits were worn with Cocktail Cuff shirts in blue and ecru, together with Knitted and Grenadine neckties respectively. A third Cocktail Cuff shirt in pink was a new addition to Bond's staple wardrobe, and was paired with Dark Grey Plain Weave Trousers by Anthony Sinclair.
